Work is underway on a new state of the art care home in the grounds of the Moat House, Great Easton, Essex.  Tetlow King Planning secured planning permission on behalf of Retirement Villages Ltd, in conjunction with KWL Architects, for the new build 60 bed care home on the existing Retirement Villages site.  It is anticipated to open in Summer 2011.

The new care home will offer residents and staff  a much improved living and working setting.  The building will house 60 en-suite bedrooms, including enhanced dementia suites, a range of communal facilities for residents, service areas including laundry and kitchen, and staff accommodation.

The planning application built upon an extant permission and draft plans for the development which needed elaboration and updating. It entailed a new approach to the design of the care home to ensure that the internal space was both pleasant for residents and efficient for staff; as well as the external finish complementing the existing Moat House.

The Parish Council was persuaded to support the application and in approving the planning application the Local Planning Authority, Uttlesford District Council, was persuaded inter alia of the need for a specialist care home in this rural location arising from increased life expectancy throughout the District.

The foundation stone was laid by the local MP, Sir Alan Haselhurst,  in October 2010.
