Today marks the 2nd ever National Right to Build Day. The 30th October 2020 is the date by which local authorities must have demonstrably met demand from Base Period 2 of their Self-Build Registers, together with any shortfall they failed to address from Base Period 1.

Research by NaCSBA indicates that in the past 12 months some 15,000 serviced plots should have been permissioned. We watch with interest to see how local authorities across the country have performed against this following NaCSBA’s analysis of Freedom of Information data, particularly given that new research published by NaCSBA shows that 1 in 3 people are interested in self-building.

Tetlow King look forward to continuing to work with Custom Build HomesRight to Build Task Force, and SelfBuild & Design Magazine to further develop the growth of this rapidly emerging sector.

Given all of the above, the Secretary of State Robert Jenrick’s announcement of the Government’s review into the Right to Build legislation and how local authority’s are fulfilling their statutory duties is particularly timely.
